She is the daughter of Alexander the Great, who promised her hand in marriage to Banjo Bindlestuff should he prove himself worthy and would be able to locate her.  Alexander gave Banjo one of the Princess' gloves in order for Banjo to recognize her and prove that she is the princess.  Banjo gave up all his fortune and comfort in order to ride the rails and seek her out.

Jasper and the Hobo Princess have only met on one occasion, but it was enough for Jasper to fall in love and ask for her hand.  

She is mostly described as "fair" and beautiful, as well as regal.
