Automatons are non-sentient robots.
Automatons probably share most characteristics with robots, except for their sentience, and possibly vary much more wildly in size and shape.
Non-sentient robots do not have rights or personhood as sentient robots do. It is possible for automatons to gain or be upgrated to have self-awareness and thus become robots.
Notable Automatons[]
- Grimmit's cyberdog in Tales of the Troubleshooters - Personal Business
- The Barkeep's Bell-Bots in Murder In His Place
- Trigger Happy J.A.C.K. in Sheriff on Mars
- Technos the Advanced's technologobots in She Blinded Me with Technology
- Sparks Nevada's Deputybots in Flood at First Sight began as automatons, but became self-aware and were probably upgraded to robot status by the time the episode began
- Sparks Nevada acquired more Deputybots after Flood at First Sight, who were garunteed to not become sentient. In The Sad, Sad Song of Widow Johnson, Part One, these bots accompanied Sparks in escorting Wendy Johnson, Mr. Johnson and Felton across Mars.
